Workshop on startups in fisheries at RBU

Department of Life Sciences of Rayat Bahra University organized a one-day `Workshop on Startups and Entrepreneurship in Fisheries' in collaboration with Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, DST, National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC).
Dr Ashfaug F Aga from Sher-e-Kashmir University Agricultural Sciences and Technology enlightened the participants about a significant career in fisheries and challenges associated with the startups.
Dr Asfaug also highlighted various government funding schemes like National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), NABARD, Hill Area Development Programme (HADP) for promoting fisheries business.
Rayat Bahra University Vice-Chancellor Dr Parvinder Singh appreciated the idea of a workshop in the fisheries while planning to introduce the new programme at UG and PG level in the university. He motivated the students to initiate their startups and to generate employment opportunities for others as well.
Dr Simerjit Kaur, Dean of Students Welfare, stated that due to the average person's consumption of about 42 pounds of fish, fish farming is a lucrative industry. Additionally, the bulk of Indian customers frequently eat fish as a food source because it is high in protein and minerals. Given your little investments, fish farming yields enormous profits.
The participants were overwhelmed after attending the workshop and participated in active discussion with the speaker.
