category Regional, chandigarh, , tags Regional, chandigarh, , DW BUREAU Chandigarh The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today demanded an immediate withdrawal of the illogical and arbitrary order to impose centralized admissions on government as well as aided and unaided colleges while keeping private Universities out of its ambit, asserting the move had resulted in chaos and even disruption of the examinations. In a statement here, senior SAD leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said it seemed the government had bowed down to the demands of private Universities and kept them out of the centralized admission portal. He said either all colleges and universities should be part of the centralized admission process or all institutes should be allowed to do admission on their own. The government should not adopt a discriminatory policy which is bound to further affect admissions in government institutions . Asserting that chief minister Bhagwant Mann was responsible for the ongoing strike by college teachers which had disrupted the examination process with thousands of under graduates being unable to give their final examination paper yesterday, Dr Cheema said the chief minister is responsible for the current chaos as he had assured the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of all college managements of the withdrawal of the centralized admission portal. However this was not done resulting in the current strike . He said if the government s concern was data collection only, it should ask the educational institutions to upload their admission details on the State government portal. Asking the chief minister not to destroy the education sector by taking dictatorial decisions without achieving consensus with the stakeholders, Dr Cheema said all such decisions should be taken after taking into consideration and staff strength needed to conduct centralized admissions as well as ensuring a level playing field for both government and private colleges as well as private Universities .
