category Regional,, tags Regional,, DW BUREAU A 21-day workshop on tailoring and stitching which started on September 25 under the Career Guidance Scheme had its closing session here today at Government College Machhiwara. The college, under the visionary leadership of Principal Prof Deepak Chopra, is committed to championing for the welfare of girl students and towards building stronger girls and a stronger community. This workshop, one of its kind, was organised under the guidance of Prof Binita Jhanji, Head of the Department of English and NAAC coordinator. This workshop aimed to economically empower girls through skill acquisition on sewing, stitching and tailoring. Media incharge Prof Binita Jhanji said that the Resource Person Rajwinder Kaur taught the basic elements of sewing, cutting, stitching, hemming and various other techniques to the students of the college. Principal Prof Deepak Chopra highlighted that such skill acquisition play a very important role in the socio economic development of the country, wherein girls get opportunity to earn for their families and contribute towards poverty eradication . The Principal extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guests, Rajwinder Kaur, Gurinder Singh Nurpur, President NRI Club, Golak to Gareeb Tak and Shiv Kumar Shivli, President of Machhiwara Sahib Social Welfare Society NGO, Nidhi Sharma, Deepak Chanana, Rajinder Singh, Jagdish Kumar, Gurdeep Singh Mann and Surjit Singh.
