A flag march led by District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit and SSP Vikram Jeet Duggal, was taken out in the city this evening to sensitise the people of the grim situation of COVID.
District Magistrate Kumar Amit appealed to the people to cooperate with the district administration during the curfew imposed to curb the spread of COVID and ensure strict compliance to the instructions issued by the state government. SSP Vikram Jeet Duggal warned that if the people violated the curfew strict action would be taken as per law. He said that 539 cases have been registered against the offenders who have violated the orders of the District Magistrate during the last one and half months.
Led by senior officials of the civil and police administration, the flag march started from Leela Bhawan Chowk. Passing through 22 Number Railway Overbridge, Bhupindra Road, Fountain Chowk, Sai Market, Dharmapura Bazar, Anardana Chowk, Sheranwala Gate, Bus Stand, Khanda Chowk, Tripuri, Anand Nagar, Sidhu Colony, Thapar College and other major city roads, it concluded at Leela Bhawan.
The only message that was delivered through the flag march was to make people aware of the seriousness of the COVID pandemic as well as to prevent them from violating the curfew and other restrictions, said SSP Duggal.
Kumar Amit said that this flag march was organized to create awareness among the people in view of the increasing cases of COVID. "Through the flag march, we have conveyed the message regarding guidelines issued by the government to ensure the wearing of masks and stay at homes besides maintaining social distance," he said.
He appealed to the people to ensure strict compliance of the orders issued by the Punjab Government, health department and district administration or else the administration would take strict action.
