Seminar on preservation of Punjabi culture

category Regional,, tags Regional,, DW BUREAU SAMRALA: A seminar was organized on the topic char(39) Punjabi culture char(39) Challenges and Opportunities char(39) today at Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College for women Jhar Sahib under the patronage of its principal Dr Rajinder Kaur and organised by the head of Punjabi department Dr Mahipinder Kaur and Dr Jasbir Kaur. In which scholars associated with Punjabi literature presented their valuable views on the degradation of Punjabi culture. Addressing on this occasion, Akali leader Santa Singh Umedpur said that it is the need of the hour to consider the ancient form and status of Punjabi culture. The present of Punjabi culture is in danger. Under the influence of globalization it has lost its ancient form. Head of the Punjabi department Dr. Mahipinder Kaur said that every culture has to struggle to save its existence. In his inaugural address, Punjabi scholar Nirmal Jaura said that there is a need to encourage the new generation at the grassroots level to connect them with their culture. Chief Guest Jathedar Gurmeet Singh Buh said that the Punjabi community while fighting for the rights of the people has achieved remarkable achievements, it will also have to preserve its cultural heritage and mother tongue. A financial grant of Rs 2 lakh was also announced on behalf of SGPC to the college. Renowned scholar Dr.Harpal Singh Pannu said that if today our young generation gets employment here then why should they be forced to become immigrants in search of employment. Dr. Parveen Kumar Coordinator, Department of Punjabi, Punjab University and Dr Jyoti Sharma, Professor in Department of Punjabi, Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh said that western influence should not be accepted so quickly that it becomes difficult to maintain our own unique identity. Earlier, at the beginning of the seminar, the students of the music department sang Shabad and it was followed by ceremonial lighting of lamp.
