category Regional, chandigarh, , tags Regional, chandigarh, , DW BUREAU Chandigarh The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to get the value cuts imposed on wheat crop reviewed besides paying a bonus of Rs 100 per quintal to farmers to compensate them for low yields due to inclement weather. Addressing a press conference here, senior SAD leader Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra said chief minister Bhagwant Mann had failed to present the State s case for exemption from value cuts on wheat properly to the centre due to which the cuts had been imposed. The AAP government should not surrender to the central government like this and should make a case to get these cuts reviewed and withdrawn besides announcing a bonus of Rs 100 per quintal to farmers . Prof Chandumajra also castigated the chief minister for failing to present the State s case for compensation under the disaster management fund, saying this laxity would cost farmers dearly. He said despite the chief minister s announcement girdwari had not taken place and loss assessment had also not been done. Simultaneously deputy commissioners have been asked not to award damage of more than 33 per cent to farmers which will deprive them of much needed compensation . The SAD leader also protested against the central government directive that deterioration of quality during storage of wheat which had been procured after relaxing norms would be the sole responsibility of the State government. He said the central government should not penalize the State when the wheat would be stored by the former. Prof Chandumajra also urged the central government to open trade with Pakistan, saying farmers of the region could profit immensely by exporting food grains to Pakistan and other countries. He also demanded review of the Fasal Bima Yojna saying under the present scheme private companies were responsible for dispensing crop insurance which was never done sincerely. A corporation should be formed for this purpose and State Agriculture Boards should submit insurance premiums on behalf of farmers . (editor dailyworld.in)
