Punjab Police arrests two operatives of banned SFJ

category Regional, chandigarh, , tags Regional, chandigarh, , DW BUREAU Chandigarh Two operatives of banned outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) were arrested for writing pro-Khalistan slogans at many places in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan, a top police officer said on Monday. Pro-Khalistan leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is the chief of the SFJ, which has been designated as an unlawful association by the Centre. Recently, slogans including boycott Air India , Khalistan Zindabad and SFJ Zindabad were seen at various places in Bathinda during Independence Day, in Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh during the World Cup cricket match, at Hanumangarh railway station in Rajasthan and during Gurupurab in Amritsar. Those arrested were identified as Harmanpreet Singh of village Naseebpura in Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda and Lovepreet Singh of Kotshamir in Bathinda. Police also recovered three cans of black spray, a Khalistan flag and a motorcycle from their possession, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said. During questioning, the arrested persons confessed that they were working for the SFJ organisation and were in touch with an associate of SFJ Jagjit Singh, who used to send money to SFJ activists in India on behalf of Pannun, he said. Preliminary investigations also revealed that both the arrested persons had received Rs 1,25,000 in various instalments from the SFJ to carry out these tasks, the DGP said. Assistant Inspector General, Counter Intelligence, Bathinda Avneet Kaur Sidhu said following reliable inputs about the movement of two persons linked with SFJ, police teams from the Counter Intelligence Bathinda conducted special checking at Bathinda-Badal road near Nanhi Chahn Chowk and arrested both the accused persons when they were travelling on their motorcycle. Further investigations are underway, she added. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at a police station in Bathinda. (editor dailyworld.in)
