DW BUREAU / ludhiana Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) organized a review meeting with fish and shrimp farmers of the State, under chairmanship of Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor to invite inputs and suggestions for formulating recommendations and an action plan for boosting horizontal and vertical expansion of the fisheries sector. The meeting kicked off with the welcome address by Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education followed by an introductory session with the farmers, including young entrepreneurs. Highlighting importance of technology backup and farmer linkages with R&D institutes, Dr. Inderjeet Singh accentuated scope of fisheries development in the tate, in special reference to doubling farmers income, promotional schemes, entrepreneurship development among youth and utilisation of degraded lands. Various issues related to capacity building, seed quality, feed manufacturing, release of subsidy, electricity connections/tariff, solar systems, water/seed testing, bio-security, processing and marketing were discussed by the farmers, with need to enforce regulations for development of shrimp farming in inland saline areas under an Act. The queries of the farmers were addressed by Dr. Meera D. Ansal, Dean, College of Fisheries,and experts from the College, Dr. Vaneet Inder Kaur and others. (editor@dailyworld.in)
