Peoples participation must to save environment: NGT chief

Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel, Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal here today called for peoples' participation in saving the environment from pollution.
Speaking at a one-day workshop on 'Environment Consciousness for Sustainable Future - Save Blue, Live Green' organized at the Rayat Bahra University, Justice Goel underlined the need to understand the connections and links between environment and health. He said that if the water that we drink and the air that we breathe get polluted then we have little chance of good health. There is an urgent need to understand how strongly the health of the planet and health of the people are connected.
He said that an effective way to curb environmental problems of the 21st century is to bring sustainability to a personal level.
The workshop was organized to make the students and the faculty aware about the sustainable way of living for a better future.
He also interacted with the students attending the workshop.
On his arrival, Justice Goel was received by Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor and Dr. Parvinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the Rayat Bahra University. While welcoming the chief guest Dr. Simerjit Kaur, Dean of Student Welfare, stated that at Rayat Bahra University, feel proud to share that we have adopted all the sustainable way of practices to have clean and green campus.
Justice (Retd) Pritam Pal, who was the expert speaker at the workshop, said that humans are responsible for the temperature rise and the problems that are caused due to global warming. He said that since humans have created this problem, it must be tackled with maximum human power. Gurvinder Singh Bahra expressed optimism that deliberations at the workshop would go a long way in promoting the 'Save Blue, Live Green campaign'. Later, Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel, visited the Green Projects Display.
He also visited Herbal Garden where he participated in the tree plantation activity. The NGT Chief witnessed a demonstration on 'Weather forecasting exhibition display' organized by the department of Metrology, Chandigarh. Students of the Rayat Bahra University on this occasion presented a Nukkad Natak on 'Environment Pollution and Health. Justice Jasvir Singh,Dr Adarsah Pal Vig, chairman Punjab Pollution Control Board, Urvashi Gulati, rretired chief secretary of Haryana and other guests were also present.
