Chandigarh Congress President Pardeep Chhabra wrote a joint letter to UT Administrator, V.P. Singh Badnore brought to his notice an issue which has not only caused loss to the exchequer, but also has led to the unsuspecting public to undergo loss by being made to pay for parking fees which was never due. Former Mayors from Congress Subhash Chawla, Surinder Singh, Harphool Chandra Kalyan, Kamles Benarsidass and Leader of Opposition in MC Davinder Singh Babla also gave a joint statement on it.
In the letter, Chandigarh Congress has said that the issue pertains to the matter of unauthorised parking fee being charged by one of the Parking Lot vendors hired by the Chandigarh MC in Sector 22-D and Bajwara market. They alleged that a parking vendor authorised by Chandigarh MC to run and operate a parking lot in Sector 22-D, put up his parking lots, things and people in other parts of Sector 22 especially in Sec 22-C market and Bajwara market, for which the vendor was never given approval or tender for. They alleged that this fraudulent charging of parking fee by the vendor kept going on for at least 2 months and came to light when market shopkeepers asked the vendor to show the authority / permission letter to operate the parking and charge fee for it. Chandigarh Congress has said that the sad truth of the issue is that the aggrieved shopkeepers are still far from getting justice and are forced to run from pillar to post with nobody taking the required action even after a DDR was lodged in Sector 17 police station many months back.
Chandigarh Congress has alleged that it is sad and astonishing that even the area MC councillor and current Mayor Ravikant Sharma never raised this issue of high handedness and illegal charging of parking fee by the vendor. It was expected that the area MC councillor of Sector 22, Ravikant Sharma will raise the issue at appropriate platforms and help the aggrieved shopkeepers and residents to get justice. Chandigarh Congress has requested UT Administrator to instruct the authorities to investigate the issue in a fast-track manner and take required actions as per law.
