DW BUREAU / CHANDIGARH There is a need to build an inclusive society to achieve the goal of self-reliant and strong India, said retired IAS officer and president of Phule Ambedkari Gauravshali and Adarshwadi Muhim (PAGAAM) SR Ladhar. "There is a total violation of the Constitution in giving reservation to OBCs and SCs in Punjab. Their representation in the government jobs is not in proportion to their population," said Ladhar, while speaking at a webinar organised by a group of city-based intellecturals under the aegis of CYP to mark the birth anniversary of the icon of social justice and chairman of the Mandal Commission late BP Mandal. Ladhar said that most of academic institutions -- public or private -- do not adhere to quota norms in the state of Punjab despite the fact that without the empowerment of weaker sections of the society, India would never be able to become a superpower. Ladhar said that the people belonging to weaker sections of the society need to adopt multi-pronged strategies to ensure that there is no dilution in the implementation of affirmative measures in the country. "There is no short-cut. We have to fight with facts and win over lies," he said. CYP convener Kripa Sindhu Yadav said that a large number of people have participated in the series of webinars. The response was very good, he said. Yadav further said that there is a need to create awareness among weaker sections of the society so that they do not only fight for their rights but also contribute to build a strong and inclusive India. Ladhar said that the legacy of Dr BR Ambedkar, BP Mandal and other icons of social justice needs to be preserved to build a strong India where there is no caste and religion based exclusion and discrimination against our own people in sharing opportunities. "We must come together to build an inclusive society, where everyone lives in peace," he said. (editor@dailyworld.in)
