MCC committed to eradicate evil of Single Use Plastic

category Regional,, tags Regional,, DW BUREAU Aspiring to become a plastic free city and aiming at raising awareness about the harmful impacts of single-use plastic bags and promoting the use of eco-friendly alternatives, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has started a unique initiative by introducing compostable bags for the vegetable vendors at Apni Mandis on the occasion of International Plastic Bag Free day. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh distributed compostable bags to the vendors at Apni Mandi, Sector 45, here on Monday in the presence of Anindita Mitra, Commissioner, Kanwarjeet Singh, Senior Deputy Mayor, Gurpreet Singh, area councilor and other prominent persons of the area. Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor expressed his commitment to promoting sustainable practices and reducing the use of single-use plastic bags in the city. We hope that this initiative will not only raise awareness but also inspire citizens to make a positive change towards a cleaner and greener future, he said. He said that the distribution of compostable bags was aimed at raising awareness about the harmful impact of single-use plastic bags and promoting the use of eco-friendly alternatives. He further said that the distribution of compostable bags on International Plastic Bag Free Day was a significant step towards promoting sustainability and raising awareness about the harmful effects of single-use plastic bags.
