Gear up process of implementing NEP-2020: Governor

category Regional, chandigarh, , tags Regional, chandigarh, , DW BUREAU Chandigarh Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya on Friday stressed the need to accelerate the pace of efforts to implement the new National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020) in the state by 2025. Our universities are working hard to ensure that Haryana becomes the first state in the country to implement the new NEP-2020 by 2025. We just need to accelerate the pace of efforts being made in this regard, said Shri Dattatraya in his concluding remarks at the meeting with Vice Chancellors and Registrars of State Universities held at Raj Bhavan today. The Governor said every possible effort should be made to ensure that the youth of Haryana get quality education and employable skills. This will be possible only when they are provided with employment oriented education, he said. He said that the state universities should focus on multidisciplinary courses and inter-university coordination, while stressing the need for inculcating life values among students. The Governor-Chancellor said that the state universities should tie up with the leading universities of the world. It will also be an effective step to encourage education in mother tongue in every university, he said, adding that adoption of innovations, best practices in the field of research and development (R D) will help us to have a cutting edge over other universities. Lauding the efforts of Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal in promoting quality higher education, the Governor-Chancellor said that Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) will be a milestone in reaching out to the poor sections of society and enrolling their children in college and universities whose fees would be borne by the state government. The Governor said that the G-20 Presidency is a great opportunity for our universities. Our universities can collaborate with the leading universities of G-20 countries in the field of emerging technologies, management, economics and science. We need to make an action plan immediately and should not let the golden opportunity of the G-20 presidency go in vain, he said. Shri Bandaru Dattatraya said that in order to make our students employable, continuous efforts should be made in the direction of industrial cooperation. Industry and alumni meet should be encouraged to strengthen the infrastructure and facilities in the universities, he said. The Governor-Chancellor said that a target has been set to increase the gross enrolment ratio (GER) in higher education in Haryana from 32 per cent to 40 per cent by 2030. Through collective dedicated efforts, we must achieve this goal, he said. He also said that the Centre of Excellence in the field of electric vehicles, manufacturing, aviation, pharmacy and green technologies should be established in our universities and colleges during 2023-24.
