DW BUREAU / Patiala In order to protect the wheat from rains in various mandis of Patiala district, the district administration through the procurement agencies have provided the requisite tarpaulins to keep the grains dry. There were 3493 tarpaulins made available to protect the wheat grain from inclement weather in the previous days and from this morning's rains. The District Food and Supply Controller Harsharanjit Singh Brar said that as per agency wise details, as many as 1646 tarpaulins were distributed by Pungrain, 241 by Markfed, 1476 by Punjab Warehouse and 130 by PUNSUP. As a result, advance arrangements were made to protect the produce of the farmers from unseasonal rains. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit said that all the procurement agencies were kept on high alert on case of such bad weather. Apart from that the arrangements made in advance as per the directions of the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for the smooth and hassle-free procurement of wheat in the district and prevention of any damage to the wheat from inclement weather. Kumar Amit further said that although the current wheat season is at its peak now and will be completed in the next few days. Meanwhile, as many as 7 lakh gunny bags have been arranged in the mandis of Patiala district after the Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh gave nod to reuse of the good condition used bags. Disclosing this here today, District Food and Supplies Controller Harsharanjit Singh said that there was no problem of gunny bags in Patiala district and bardana was available as per the demand.He said that after the decision of the Punjab government to reuse the used bags in good condition.
