category Regional,, tags Regional,, DW BUREAU To raise awareness among the general public about the biographies and teachings of saints and great men who dedicated themselves to fostering awareness in society and promoting unity, integrity, and pride of the country, the Haryana government is organizing state-level programs under the Sant-Mahapurusha Samman and Vichar Prasar Yojana. As part of this initiative, the birth anniversary of Veerangana Jhalkari Bai will be celebrated in Palwal tomorrow, with the esteemed presence of Haryana Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal as the chief guest. Jhalkari Bai, born on 22nd November 1830 into a humble Koli family in Bhojla, a village in Bundelkhand (Uttar Pradesh), is an inspiring figure. Her father, Sadova alias Moolchand Koli, served as a soldier, and influenced by his military career, Jhalkari displayed courage and determination from her early childhood. When the conversation turns to women empowerment in India, the esteemed Veerangana Rani Lakshmibai inevitably takes center stage. Much like Lakshmibai, the commander of her women s wing, Durga Dal, Jhalkari Bai, stands out as a formidable warrior with a significant role in India s freedom struggle. Jhalkari Bai not only safeguarded Rani Lakshmibai s life but also fearlessly battled the British, displaying unwavering courage and bravery, regardless of personal risk. Jhalkari Bai mirrored the spirit of Rani Lakshmibai. During an occasion when Rani Lakshmibai adorned Jhalkari with her own hands and brought her at the darbar, onlookers struggled to distinguish between Lakshmibai and Jhalkari. It was then that the queen bestowed upon Jhalkari the title of Bai, and from that moment forward, she became known as Jhalkari Bai. (editor dailyworld.in)
