category Regional, chandigarh, , tags Regional, chandigarh, , DW BUREAU Chandigarh Terming the show-cause notices issued to two teachers for lodging protests on social media draconian and undemocratic, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday said that the Aam Aadmi party-led Punjab government was aggressively strangulating the voices of dissent to hush-up its lies and failures. In a scathing attack on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Bajwa said that he (Mann) often boasts about calling himself the son of a teacher, and still, he has no respect for the profession (teaching) of his father. He showed no sympathy to those, who are responsible for building the future of the nation and Punjab in particular. The people of his father s profession were mercilessly beaten by the police under him. How obnoxious it is to not let the victims of the government s high-handedness express their sufferings on social media platforms , LoP added. The opposition leader said that a video of one of the teachers, Manpreet Kaur, which was shot inside a classroom, had gone viral on social media in which she could be seen telling her students that the AAP government in Punjab wasn t regularising temporary teachers like her. She was also seen showing her injured foot to the students, saying that she got injuries during a recent protest when the teachers were lathi-charged by police. Senior Congress Leader, Bajwa said that protesting and expressing dissent are democratic rights and the AAP government cannot snatch these rights with such cruel means. Punjab CM announced to regularise (Pakka) the jobs of 8736 teachers in September 2022. He had also committed to increase their monthly salary to Rs 15,000. The alleged neither have their services been regularised nor have got increased salaries in their accounts. Whatever this government claims in the advertisements is based on forged information. In reality, the government has failed miserably to keep its promises , Bajwa added. (editor dailyworld.in)
