The rally was flagged off by Dr Virinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University. He congratulated the department for organising the event. He emphasized that the need is to create awareness among the masses about the hazards of tobacco consumption. He said Tobacco consumption is a major cause of preventable deaths worldwide. We need to educate people about the harmful effects of tobacco and encourage them to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Dr Davinder Kumar, Director, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, in his address highlighted the role of educational institutions in promoting a healthy lifestyle. He said as a responsible educational institution it was our duty to create awareness about the ill-effects of tobacco and encourage our students to adopt a healthy lifestyle. The rally covered nearby areas, and participants distributed pamphlets and flyers to create awareness about the hazards of tobacco consumption.
