African colours, rhythm reverberate at Surajkund Mela

Although this year, the East African countries have come and participated in large numbers giving visitors something new and exciting to experience, engage in shopping of their exotic crafts and witness foot tapping cultural performances from these African countries. Some of the countries from Africa such as Botswana, Cabo Verde, Comoros, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Sao Tome Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Congo to name a few have created an environment that take visitors deep into African culture and ethos. Tanzania being the Partner Nation of the ongoing 37th Edition of the Surajkund International Crafts Mela has brought unique handicrafts. One of the Tanzanian craftsperson Grace Mihigo talks elaborately about the crafts on display from Tanzania. She states that visitors are loving the colours of our African nation and are buying our cotton made Tanzanian traditional dresses, leather bags, accessories and handmade paintings which depict our traditional art. Visitors are especially loving the handmade cotton shirts which will definitely be a style statement this summer. African nuts of various kinds too are being loved by shoppers as they get to taste a whole new variety of dry fruits. Nassiba Pilisseure from Togo too has brought very creative bead work and jewellery from her country. The jewellery is very typically African and unlike designs seen locally. Not only jewellery but the handmade cotton dresses shirts and coats are being appreciated by all. (editor dailyworld.in)
