New Delhi, Sep 15 : A 50-year-old man was fatally stabbed while resisting robbers who were trying to snatch his phone in southeast Delhi, the police said on Friday, adding three persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to the police, on Thursday at around 9.25 p.m., they received a call about a man being stabbed and robbed of his mobile phone.
"A police team arrived at the scene and discovered that the victim,
identified as Kanai Malik, a resident of Ali Vihar, had been transported to the hospital. He had sustained a stab wound and tragically passed away at 11 p.m.," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Rajesh Deo.
A mobile forensic crime team inspected the crime scene, took photographs, and collected evidence.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the deceased had worked as a receptionist at a firm located in DLF Tower B, Jasola Vihar.
"Although there were no eyewitnesses, local information suggested that he had been stabbed during a robbery attempt to steal his mobile phone. Consequently, a case was registered under sections 302 (murder) and 397 (robbery) at Sarita Vihar police station," said the DCP.
"Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, multiple teams were assembled to identify and apprehend the suspects. CCTV footage near the crime scene was reviewed, and confidential informants were deployed to gather information," said the DCP.
Ultimately, based on intelligence, the prime accused, Raj Kumar (19), a resident of Gautampuri, was apprehended.
During questioning, he confessed that on Thursday at around 9 p.m., he, along with his accomplices Kallu Dada and Billi, also known as Sohail, had robbed a passerby of his mobile phone.
"When the passerby resisted, Raj Kumar stabbed him in the chest. After committing the robbery, they fled the spot. Subsequently, Raj Kumar was arrested, and the stolen mobile phone was recovered from his possession. Following his disclosure, two more suspects, Billi and Kallu Dada, were arrested in connection with the case," the DCP added.
